An ACM Original On Devices, the Hungers Beneath Them

The Hungers Beneath the Screen, and the One Who Satisfies

Screens promise connection, stimulation, and identity. They often deliver isolation, anxiety, and emptiness — most of all in children. Captured names why, with honesty and compassion, and points to where those same hungers are truly met.

The Story

Not an anti-technology film. A question about hunger.

Devices are engineered to hold us — that is not an accident or a moral failing in the person using them, it is the design. But beneath the compulsion sit real, God-given hungers: to belong, to rest, to be known, to worship something worthy. Captured names the problem honestly, using credible science and real Thai testimony, then shows that the peace people are reaching for through the screen has a Person behind it.

What we behold, we become.

Screens are not merely a bad habit. They are a counterfeit answer to needs God designed us to bring to Him.

The Series

Seven questions, one honest hunger

Each episode opens on ground any viewer already stands on, and grows deeper — one emotional question at a time — toward the One who answers the ache underneath.

  1. 01
Why can't I put it down?

    Built to Catch Us

How the device is engineered to hold us — dopamine loops, infinite scroll, and notifications designed as the product, with the growing mind as the raw material.

  2. 02
What is this costing the people I love?

    What It's Taking

A family sits at the table, each lost in a separate screen. Real Thai testimony — a child, a parent, a young adult in recovery — makes the human cost honest and personal.

  3. 03
A person to be loved, or a product to be used?

Who They Want You to Be

The machinery of comparison, and Scripture's radical counter-claim: you were known and loved before you ever posted anything.

  4. 04
    Why is it never enough?

    The Craving That Never Fills

Device craving as one face of an old human ache. The Thai bridge to the well that always runs dry — and the water that finally ends the thirst.

  5. 05
Is it ever allowed to stop?

    Rest for the Weary

A parent's own captivity to the glow at midnight, met gently with an old invitation: come to me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest.

  6. 06
What am I here to do with what I've been given?

What You Were Given to Grow

The parable of the talents: time, attention, and gifts entrusted to us, buried in the scroll or invested toward who we're made to be.

  7. 07
    Where do I actually belong?

    The Real Network

A shared meal, laughter, faces fully present to one another — the real body of people that a network of followers only imitates.

How We Tell It

Testimony and Truth, Woven Together

Real Thai testimony carries the heart. Credible expertise carries the authority. Neither alone is enough.

Testimony without evidence can feel anecdotal. Evidence without testimony stays cold. Every episode weaves both together — real people, and the researchers, clinicians, and specialists who confirm what they've lived.

Real testimony · Credible experts · One honest question per episode

Testimony Voices

A child and their parents. A young adult in recovery. A parent honest about their own captivity to screens. Real Thai believers and a local church community. The stories that carry the series.

+

Expert Voices

University researchers in psychology and child development, paediatricians and clinicians, addiction specialists, and a technology insider who can explain, plainly, how engagement is engineered. Thai voices prioritised wherever possible.

Each episode is built around a single emotional question a viewer could state in one sentence — from ‘why can’t I put it down?’ to ‘where do I actually belong?’ Every layered idea serves that one question rather than crowding it.

Built to travel
Thailand — primary audience Adaptable to other countries and languages and more

This is a lean, testimony-led production — a small crew shooting real people in real Thai homes and churches. That intimacy is a creative strength, not just a budget constraint.

“One honest question at a time, building toward the same place: the One who satisfies.”

The pattern in Scripture
  • Genesis 1:27 “so God created mankind in his own image”
  • Psalm 139:13–14 “you knit me together in my mother’s womb”
  • John 4:14 “whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst”
  • Matthew 11:28 “come to me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest”

Made with Care

Honest about the harm. Never shaming the viewer.

Warm, never shaming

The villain is the engineered system, never the person caught in it. Every episode is honest about real harm without blaming or scolding the viewer.

Testimony first

Real Thai faces and real stories carry the series. People believe stories before they believe arguments.

Safeguarded with care

Vulnerable contributors — those in recovery, minors, and their families — are protected with written consent, the right to withdraw, and pastoral support around filming.

Grounded in Thai culture

Native field production and local testimony, built on genuine Thai values rather than imported assumptions.

Expert contributors speak as scientific and academic voices to the harm and the science — distinct from the series' explicitly Christian material, with that distinction made clear to them from the outset.
